my "pay what you can" experiment

As I rebuild my coaching and consulting practice, I've been exploring how best to describe the relationship between me and my clients. The word “client” feels stuffy and impersonal, and implies (to some) a passive experience on their part.

That's not how I operate.

To be an effective coach, consultant, advisor, or thought partner requires an engaged counterpart. A collaborator. Someone willing to dig deep, be vulnerable, and share candidly the parts of themselves necessary to guide and inform my contributions and reveal how they can best be supported in reaching their goals.

I become your wayfinding partner, not someone who dictates your path.

In 2026, I'm taking this a step further, not only in re-framing the relationship, but also in how the financial investment is shaped.

For the past couple of years, a number of folks I've worked with have benefitted from sponsored (by others) or gifted (by me) support, which will continue.

Now it's time to revisit some version of a sliding scale or “pay what you can” model. In full transparency, I'm unsure how this will work, but am ready and willing to experiment.

I share a bit more about what I hope to learn AND how you can join me in this experiment in my latest post.
