making good on a long-overdue promise

Hi Reader,

Weekends are generally my reset, in life and business. Sunday mornings are spent preparing for the week ahead. Finding inspiration. Mapping my energy.

That hasn't been possible this weekend. If you're in the U.S., perhaps you're feeling a heaviness, too.

But also, as we enter the final week of January, I'm closing in on a goal that I've been working towards since my husband passed away just over a year ago. So I'm digging deep to maintain my momentum and keep showing up.

And so it seems like the right time to finally deliver on something I promised back in 2024: to transition these Sunday notes to a weekly "pep talk in your inbox"—a regular boost of encouragement to affirm (or restore) your belief in your badassery + enterprising spirit.

To kick things off, I'm turning to wisdom from a woman who drew both criticism and admiration for her outspokenness and advocacy in her lifetime.

“You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, ‘I have lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.’ You must do the thing you think you cannot do.” – Eleanor Roosevelt, former first lady of the United States, diplomat and activist

While you may choose to consider her words through the lens of today's headlines, I hope you'll also consider them as encouragement in whatever challenges you face.

In three years of caregiving, I lost track of the number of things I found myself tackling head-on that a younger version of myself would have been paralyzed by. Whatever hard things we endure in life prepare us for what comes next.

Those collective experiences become a well from which we can draw courage to face and CHANGE the systems and sentiments responsible for the unnecessary suffering and horrors we survived.

Not the peppiest of ways to kick-off this series, but heartfelt.

in solidarity + with gentle encouragement,
